The Powerglide transmission is hands down the most popular transmission used for racing today.  its compact design and durability make it ideal for high horsepower vehicles while its light weight and tight gear ratios make it quick and easy to change for different track conditions.  it high popularity has opened up a very large aftermarket following that has allowed it to be used in vehicles that have so much power, there is no words to describe it other than amazing.  It has such a high popularity that manufactures have even built bell housings allowing it to be used from Chevrolets to Chryslers and Fords to even AMC and Toyota motors.  When you order a WPT Powerglide it is hand built for your vehicle especially, because all this allows us to curtail a transmission that will fit your needs perfectly.  To simplify the purchase process we have 4 levels we recommend with 2 add on options to give a rough idea what you will need.
  • Level 1 (bracket racer):

  • Reid racing case
    • These cases are brand new, not 40 year old thin walled sand casted cases. They are made using permanent die castings to prevent porosity issues, core shift along with being less brittle.
    • All cases come with internal liner and bell housing is SFI certified meeting both 4.1 and 30.1 requirements. 
    • Two piece cases are also available with bolt on bell housings to adapt to Big block and Small block Chrysler, big block and small block Ford, modular Ford motors, and Buick/Pontiac/Oldsmobile.
    • Can use standard 1 3/16" output shaft or larger 1 1/4" th400 style output shaft
    • Available in roller bushing or bearing style case support for added strength
  • High strength input shaft
    • 4340 chromoly turbo and PG spline ring style: recommended for bracket cars and street cars (600 hp and below)
    • 300M ring style: recommended for the super categories (1000 hp and below)
    • Maraging ring style: for naturally aspirated and light weight top dragster and top sports man about (1400 hp and below)
    • Maraging ring less style: for forced induction, nitrous assisted and mountain motors (2000hp and below)
    • Big Dog over sized input shaft for outlaw, pro mod motors (2000+ hp) 
  • Racing Oil pumps
    • Standard Race prepared oil pump: countless hours of research and development went into our modifications to have increased lube oil to certain areas and our tightning of tolerances in order to increase pump efficiency and life. 
    • Gererotor pumps: the gererotor design is known for having a high volume flow even at low rpms, along with being a more efficient design requiring less horsepower to turn.  Ideal for classes and racers that are trying to increase drive line effeciency down the track.
    • Oversized gear style pump: Gear to gear pumps are the toughest design of pumps and can exert higher pressures than other pumps.  This is why they are the most common type of pump used in transmissions, however most lack enough volume to sufficiently charge the large trans brake circuit and cause creeping. To solve this problem the aftermarket offers over sized pumps to fit the additional demand placed on it.
  • High gear drum
    • Stock iron drum: good quality drum for low to moderate power, and can hold between 6 and 8 high gear clutches depending on the material used.  
    • High capacity steel drum: having  a hard outer band surface and ability to be machined to hold up to 10 high gear clutches these drums are good for high power applications.
    • Aluminum drum: comes in stock depth and high capacity depth, while shedding 3 lbs of rotational weight.  Ceramic coating on outside prevents premature drum and band life.
    • Pro Mod style drum:  Pro mod style drums are for the highest of power levels, these drums come with 54 lugs on the over steel floaters, rather than 12, which prevent beating out the drum and causing frictions to stick.  Frictions also come in larger diameter for slightly higher clamp load, and reduced stress to the clutch material.
  • Planetary Gear sets
    • Available in several different ratios including 1.65, 1.69, 1.74,1.80, 1.87, 1.92, and 1.98 straight cut or 1.76 helical set.
    • Short or long output shafts are available
    • Carriers come in standard ductile iron or cast aluminum to shed 1.5 lbs of rotating weight

  • Low servo pistons
    • From the factory a single ring cast aluminum piston was used, however these have a tendency to crack and cause cars to go into reverse when the transbrake is applied, therefore we recommend one of two pistons.
    • Dual billet aluminum piston with cast iron rings, these are good for low to moderate horsepower and have a high cycle life for longevity.  
    • Dual billet servo with lip seal secondary seal.  Lips seals are a rubber seal which allows it to seal and conform to bores of irregular shape, along with providing a tighter overall seal. The lip seal acts in the same fashion as gas porting a piston, so as pressure is increased the seal, seals better.
